| I have over the last few weeks been in conversation with the Selva dealer in Sweden, They tell me that they will soon have a "New Selva green F1000i engine" to test. They have suggested that they bring the engine to a round of the F4 Worlds for the drivers to try !!!!! I suggested France, as the F4-s will also be there, but i think it clashes with a round for them ?.
Any ideas or thoughts people.
The idea would be to show as many drivers as possible so they could compare it with what we have.
Good news for a change. |

| I have had a surprising response from a truly international field. from as far away as USA and Austrailia, but also from Europe and nearer home !!!
I think if, the results from testing are good, Selva could have a winner on their hands. And we could have a answer to our engine needs.
One hurdle seams to have been removed, due to the fact that the engine is on way to Sweden . As some will know, this has been a problem in the past with Selva, getting engines if you are outside Italy.!!!!!
Who knows in the future we could have a "real " World championship class with drivers from Europe, USA and Austrailia involved.
Maybe the Merc 60 could become the starter class and the Selva could become the new F3.
We hope to have a rig available for drivers to test, soon, maybe at Stewartby Worlds. I will keep you informed |

| Just to confirm, the engine appears to be based on the Selva Tiger shark.
1025cc. 3cyl. 2 stroke EPA. with race leg and gearbox. The stock Tiger shark engine is rated at 80bhp. So I guess this powerhead coupled to race mid and box should be a match for the fastest Yam, maybe even a little faster.... |

| Hi Carl Sorry to sound stupid!!! but does this mean that its an alternative to the Merc 60 on the F4-s? as F4 has been replaced by F4-s are you saying it will be a new class or an additional option of engine on the established F4-s class? It was my understanding that alot of F4 hulls no longer comply with the UIM rule book for international racing? A new engine that keeps boats racing is always welcome! Ta Mark |

| Hi Mark,
The Selva is more an alternative to the F4 (yam) than the F4-s (merc) as it is as fast, or maybe even a little faster than the Yam, where the Merc is quite a bit slower !!.
I think, I see the Selva more, as a class to step upto from the Merc, like when we had F4 and F3.
We have at least 40 boats in England, France, Portugal, Italy and Hungary that conform with current UIM hull rules, All these boats could convert to the Selva. A class already exists in Italy and in parts of Scandinavia, the F1000i using the current Selva engine. I am sure most of the current Merc powered boats could convert to the Selva engine if the drivers wanted to progress.
Also in the US they have a class SST60, same sort of speed to out old Yams. They like us are finding it hard to keep the class going because the engines are old. The SSt 60 boats could like our boats be converted to Selva F1000i EPA. They have a similar class in Austrailia again using a OMC engine that could convert to Selva F1000i. EPA.
When you add all the boats up we are getting to some very good numbers.
I dont want to take away from the F4-s (merc) just find something that will work for all the drivers who are running now.
As some will know the problem in the past with Selva, has been the supply of parts and engines if you live outside Italy. !!! This looks like it may have been resolved as Bimba Sjoholm has a new EPA Selva on the way to test.
My view is If Bimba and Selva are looking to bring a rig with the new engine all the way to England for the drivers to try, they must have some commitment. As we all know it is not cheap to travel from Sweden to the UK with a boat.
I think this is the best solution we have on offer, one that will encourage new drivers into our sport, while offering a practical alternative to existing drivers.
And for a manufacturer a large enough market for it to be viable.
Remember this engine runs on a race mid and box, so it will even sound like a race engine !!!

| Carl This seems to be a very interesting solution depending of course on them being available. Have you heard anything about the potential cost? Cheers Graham |

| Sorry don't know costs, but as soon as I do I'll let you know.
Just trying to get an idea of how other feel, have to say that so far I've been surprised at the response. From. . . . . "if it happens, I'd like to see it go". . . . "to when can I get one" |
